Work started with Boccia UK when I was commissioned to lead on communications for the World Boccia Championships, held at Exhibition Centre Liverpool in 2018. The successful campaign has led to an ongoing role with Boccia UK.
The brief? To lead on communications and media, driving awareness of the event, the sport of boccia and the British team. The focus is now on raising awareness of Boccia UK and its athletes, encouraging more people to play the sport.
What I did:
- Created key media moments to promote the World Boccia Championships and crafted page-ready content and feature material
- Built an engaged online community before and during the event and created a social media stream capturing all the action and atmosphere of the Championships
- Pitched athlete interviews to key media before the 2020 Paralympic Games and the 2021 European Championships
- Continually deliver strategic communications for Boccia UK and manage its day-to-day social media
Successes:
- 116 pieces of media coverage generated for the World Championships – including two BBC Breakfast feature items, a guest on Radio 4’s Saturday Live programme, a feature in The Guardian and regular updates on the BBC Sport website as well as coverage across the home nations and locally in Liverpool
- The International Paralympic Committee placed 32 pieces of content about the Championships on their website
- Increased visibility for boccia on social media among key partners including ParalympicsGB, C4 Paralympics as well as high profile C4 presenters
- Worked with ParalympicsGB to secure extra media coverage for boccia around the Tokyo Paralympics including ITN News, The Independent, Daily Record, Belfast Telegraph, Yorkshire Post
What they said:
